Course content
The course provides an introduction to research methods and scientific theory related to Applied Theater and Dramaturgy. The students are introduced to key research methods, with a focus on a selection of methodological traditions. Students learn to formulate research questions and to develop research designs in line with their own interests in the drama and theatre. The course prepares students for the work ahead with the master's thesis.

Knowledge
Upon passing the exam, the student must have knowledge of
- research methods and scientific theory
- research as a theoretical field and methodological practice
- ethical challenges, standards for use of sources and privacy issues
Skills
Upon passing the exam, the student must be able to
- discuss methodological issues
- develop and justify own choices of design and method in research projects orally and in writing
- use relevant tools and platforms for obtaining and processing information, and evaluate sources critically
- can communicate and discuss methodological issues orally and in academic written form
Learning methods and activities
Teaching in the course is coordinated with the bachelor's course DRA2008. The teaching will vary between lectures and seminars with an emphasis on student-active forms of learning, such as group work and individual presentations.

- 80% attendance
- Presentation of research design and problem statement as well as self-selected curriculum

The term paper approx. 3000 words.
Grade A-F.
The term paper requires the use of the mandatory syllabus of approx. 200 pages, as well as self-selected syllabus of approx. 300 pages (approved together with the problem for the term paper). NB! The candidate is responsible for ensuring that the syllabus is not the same as previous courses.
