Learning outcome

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:

  • a broad understanding and insight into complex artistic or art educational production processes linked to your own master's project
  • a broad understanding of the independent master's project's cultural, political and geographical context
  • a wide understanding of which skills and methods are neccessary in the implementation of an individual master's project.

Skills

Upon successful completion of this course, students will know how to:

  • work out a concept and a plan for an artistic or art educational product
  • situate an artistic or art education project in concrete dramaturgical contexts
  • allocate material, financial and human resources for the project that follows basic sustainability principles
  • acquire practical skills linked to the in-depth focus of the independent master's work
  • lead, disseminate and communicate an artistic or art educational form
  • reflect upon research ethical issues in the work

Learning methods and activities

DRA3191 focuses on the development of a performance, a creative process or the methodology for a workshop. The learning within the course will be adjusted according to the students' project plan and the focus of the approved project.

The project is carried out individually or in groups. It may be advisable to cooperate with an external party. The practical exam usually takes place in Trondheim or the surrounding area. This means that the student must be present throughout the semester.

Selected joint seminars are offered in practical and methodological tools for carrying out the master's project. The aim of the course is to provide a concrete and practically oriented knowledge base for the student's own development and follow-up of the master's project.

In collaboration with the supervisor, the student must himself ensure the necessary progression and logistical/financial disposition and implementation of his project.

The student is expected to document his own research process with regard to the reflection work (in DRA 3192)

Course requirements

At the latest one week before the exam, a project report (1500-2000 words) based on the project description is submitted. The report must discuss the research's practical and theoretical framework, and explain what is being investigated, how and why. The report must be approved by the supervisor no later than one week before the oral exam. The report must have relevant documentation (such as agreements, progress plans, scripts, audio/video files, extracts from interviews, budget, log, etc.) The language of instruction is Norwegian, but English may occasionally be used. The standard number of supervision hours for master's theses at the Faculty of Humanities is described in the following link:

Further on evaluation

The exam consists of a scenic, performative presentation or display of a master's project. The form of communication can be a performance, a performative process, a work demonstration, workshop or various combinations of these. The presentation must last between 30 - 90 minutes, with a subsequent oral exam of up to 30 minutes. The oral exam adjusts the grade on the practical demonstration.
