Course content
DRA3192 Master's Thesis constitutes the written part of the practical work with Applied Theatre and/or Dramaturgy that was carried out by the students in DRA3191. The practical work can be either students' own practical project or a internship in an institution. In this course, the students will, in the form of a master's thesis, account for and reflect critically on the artistic and/or art pedagogical research questions stemming in the practical work in DRA3191.
Learning outcome
Knowledge
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:
- in-depth knowledge of art-based research, specially in relation to the topic and research question of the candidate's own master's project
- overview and knowledge of relevant theories and concepts
- knowledge of methodological and ethical challenges related to the thesis
Skills
Upon successful completion of this course, students will know how to:
- reflect self-critically on own project using relevant perspectives from the field
- locate own practice in a disciplinary and cultural context
- communicate and discuss disciplinary perspectives orally and in writing, following academic standards
- be able to evaluate relevant ethical issues in research
Learning methods and activities
Supervision will be provided in connection with the work on the assignment.
The master’s thesis can be written in Scandinavian or English. Every master’s thesis must include a Scandinavian and English summary. Progress Seminars
As part of their thesis work, students will participate in up to three progress seminars, conducted together with the DRA3090 students. The seminars take place during the spring semester, and the timing will not necessarily correspond to each student’s individual progress.
The seminars are intended to support the students’ development of their master’s project and may vary in content depending on their stage in the process. They may, for example, include presentation and discussion of research design, methodology and theoretical perspectives, or focus on structure and project progression.
A mid-term seminar will in all cases be held, where students present their own work to date, actively participates in the response work and receive feedback.

- Presentation of own work on the master's thesis
- Participation in the mid-semester seminar, where the student presents their own work
Further on evaluation
The final assessment for DRA3192 consists of following parts:
- A written thesis of between 15.000 and 25.000 words. The word count does not include front cover, preface, table of contents, bibliography or attachments. The thesis must include the word count typed, and it is the responsibility of the candidate that the word count is accurate.
- A subsequent discussion of the work with the examination committee of up to 30 minutes, adjusting the grade given for the thesis.
