Course content

Language of instruction is English.

This course allows students to specialize in an area of Anglophone history, society, and culture, which builds on relevant courses in the subject area at the 1000- and 2000-levels of the English degree program. The students will work more independently with and debate the latest academic research on the specific theme of the course. It also allows students to advance their critical thinking, reading, and writing skills while engaging with an active research field.

A more detailed description of the academic content will be made available along with the reading list at the beginning of the semester.

Learning methods and activities

A combination of lectures, seminars, group activity, and/or supervision. Students are required to use the course learning platform regularly.

Students should expect that this 7.5 credit course equates with approximately 10 hours of work per week, including teaching time.

Compulsory assignment(s)

  • 1-3 written and/or oral assignments, equivalent to 3000-3500 words in total. Specific tasks will be defined at the start of the semester.

Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester).

Further on evaluation

The course is assessed by a written home examination (approx. 3500-4000 words/ 3 days). The exam must be answered in English.

Course materials

Students should make every effort to attend all teaching sessions as the exam may test knowledge of concepts that are not discussed in the written course materials. Curriculum/reading list will be announced at the beginning of the semester.
