About the course

Course content

The student has knowledge of project work and management, innovation, creative processes, and entrepreneurship in interdisciplinary collaboration with user and interest organizations and other relevant partners. Develops, plans and, if possible, implements a project aimed at improving occupational therapy practice, and presents the results to relevant target groups. This may also include assignments from external partners.

An asterisk (*) in the learning outcome descriptions refers to § 7b and d, § 8a and b, § 9bd, § 11b, § 12a and b, § 14c, § 16c, d and f, § 17e, § 19a and b, § 20b and § 21a, in Regulations on National guidelines for occupational therapist training, which is based on regulations of 6 September 2017 no. 1353on joint framework plan for health and social studies education § 2, and adapted to the education.

Knowledge

The student

  • has knowledge of project work and project management, innovation, creative processes, and entrepreneurship, * ( §19 b).
  • has broad knowledge of user participation, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration and ethics in project work and innovation processes.
  • have knowledge of scientific theory and research ethics, and how these can contribute to the development of knowledge in occupational therapy.

Skill

The student

  • can apply new knowledge and can make professional assessments to improve and develop services and products.
  • can apply creative and problem-solving strategies to promote activity and participation.

General competence

The student

  • knows innovational thinking and methods that can contribute to service innovation, systematic and quality-improving processes, * ( §21 a).
  • can plan, implement, and lead occupational therapy professional development projects.
  • can plan, implement, and lead cooperation with relevant partners, * ( §12 b).

Learning methods and activities

The course is based on longitudinal teaching. The course uses a large degree of student-active forms of learning individually and in groups. This can take place using groups, team-based learning, self-study, assignments, seminars, and skills practice. Lectures and digital learning methods are used when appropriate.

Further on evaluation

  • The first compulsory assignment is group based and is submitted in writing. The assignment is a group assignment related to project work.
  • The second compulsory assignment is a group based oral presentation where the groups present their own work and oppose at least one other group's work.

Approved compulsory assignments in theoretical courses are by rule valid for one year, depending on no major changes in the assignment. The student can apply to the department for an extension.

Students who fail the compulsory assignment on the first try will have one more opportunity. In extraordinary cases student can apply for a third attempt. Compulsory activities must be approved in order to take the exam. If compulsory assignments are not approved the student must retake the course.

Exam

The exam is a group based home exam. The exam is handed out at the beginning of the course.

Should the student fail the exam there will be a second opportunity. The second attempt will consist of improving the original exam.

Group based exams requires that students develop and sign a group contract and keep a log of members attendance, contributions and assigned tasks. These contracts and logs must be provided to the head of the course or the tutor if requested. By general rule there will not be possibilities for an individual assignment when the exam is group based. If a student has not contributed academically or do not cooperate with the group, the head of course can along with the program coordinator require that the student hand in an individual exam. An individual exam must be an independent piece of work and by rule have the same deadline as the group based exam.

Required previous knowledge

The course has study rights requirements and is reserved for students who have been admitted to the bachelor's study in occupational therapy at NTNU in Gjøvik/Trondheim. The course is completed at the place of study at which you have admission. All prerequisites must be passed before the student can start the course.
