Course content
FILM1103 is a base level course that focuses on the role of film in the world around us. The course gives the student insight into key cultural, commercial and ideological issues regarding the importance of film in society.
Learning outcome
Knowledge
Upon successful completion of the course the student will have:
- knowledge of the role of film in society, both as a commercial industry, as an art form and as a source of societal insights.
- knowledge of ideology, class, ethnicity, gender relations and violence in film.
- knowledge about the film's institutions, such as production and distribution systems, financial support schemes and censorship.
Skills
Upon successful completion of the course the student will know how to:
- conduct academic film analyses discussing the relationship between film and society.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, film screenings and seminars.
Students are required to stay updated on any information given by the department or course director via Blackboard. This course is taught in Norwegian only.
Further on evaluation
The final course assessment consists of a 3-day home exam, where the student completes a set of written assignments totalling 3000-4000 words.
