Learning outcome
Knowledge - The candidate
- The candidate demonstrates basic knowledge in mathematics, natural sciences, and relevant social and economic subjects, and applies this knowledge to problem-solving related to aircraft.
- The candidate is trained in acquiring and applying new knowledge within aircraft maintenance and has received training in handling changes in industry requirements and technology.
Skills - The candidate
- The candidate has training in aircraft maintenance management and is able to comply with the laws, regulations, and systems that govern maintenance work in the aviation industry.
- The candidate can analyze, plan, and carry out projects related to aircraft maintenance by evaluating information, applying critical thinking, and making well-founded decisions based on technical and practical considerations. The candidate has practiced performing such work both independently and as part of a larger team.
- The candidate demonstrates the ability to identify and apply relevant safety and quality management systems in aircraft maintenance processes, and is trained in planning and managing maintenance tasks in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
- The candidate can contribute to innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship through participation in the development and implementation of sustainable and socially beneficial products, systems, and/or solutions.
General competence - The candidate
- The candidate demonstrates understanding of the environmental, health, societal, and economic consequences of products and solutions within the field of aircraft maintenance, and is trained to discuss these from ethical and life-cycle perspectives.
- The candidate demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with various stakeholders, including aircraft technicians, engineers, airline personnel, and regulatory authorities. The candidate conveys technical information and engineering knowledge clearly and precisely and can help highlight the importance and implications of technology.
- The candidate reflects on their own professional practice, both individually and in interdisciplinary contexts, and is able to adapt this to relevant work situations.
- The candidate has training in developing methods for good practice and has participated in professional discussions within the field of aircraft maintenance with students and external participants, and has presented knowledge and experience to others.
Learning methods and activities
Bachelor Thesis is to be conducted in a project form in a group of 2-3 students.
Mandatory activities:
- Approved pre-project
- Documentation of the working progress (status reports, MoM, time sheets etc)
- Oral presentation in English of the project scope under work
- Poster (either as a final presentation or presentation of the project scope under work)
Compulsory assignments
- Preliminary project
- Submission of three-party agreement
- Presentation
- Poster
Further on evaluation
Bachelor Thesis and all prototypes/products produced during the course period are evaluated as a whole. Evaluation are given for groups involved in each Bachelor Thesis.The evaluation criteria are given in the the Manual for Bachelor Thesis at NTNU.
Specific conditions
Admission to a programme of study is required:
Aircraft Engineer - Engineering (BIFLY)
Required previous knowledge
To start on the bachelor's thesis, the student must have passed a minimum of 110 credits out of 120 study-planned credits from the first two years of the education. In addition, all compulsory courses and courses that are included in the study plan, but which are not credit-bearing, must be approved in order to start the bachelor thesis.
