Course content

Texts and Methods should give students insight into theories and methods for critical analysis of various types of French-language texts. The course has a practical approach, focusing on the terms, techniques and methods for working with assignments in the different disciplines of French studies. Students will learn how to write short academic texts in French.

Learning outcome

Candidates who have passed this course:
- are able to understand short French texts in different genres
- have insight in terms used in critical analysis and can utilize these terms in their comments and interpretations
- have insight into genre-related issues
- are able to write short academic texts in French

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and group sessions with discussion. Practical assignments. The course is taught in French. 80% attendance is required in lectures and seminars.

Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.

Compulsory assignments

  • 80% attendance in all teaching activities
  • 2 short written assignments in French

Further on evaluation

The course is assessed by a written home examination (7 days), 1000-1500 words, written in French.

Specific conditions

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.
