Course content

French literature and culture in a historical and modern perspective.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

Candidates who have passed this course

- have gained knowledge of a sample of literary and non-literary texts from different genres

- have knowledge of basic approaches to textual analysis.

- have knowledge of social and political conditions in French society.

Skills:

Candidates who have passed this course

- can write about literature and culture in French.

- can use written sources in a suitable way.

General competence:

Candidates who have passed this course

- can understand how they and others acquire foreign languages.

- can reflect on the link between language and identity.

- can adjust their behaviour and communication to different cultures.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and seminars. All lectures and seminars are compulsory.

Distribution of teaching hours:

6 full hours x 12 weeks of lectures on literature

4,5 full hours x 12 weeks of lectures on culture

Compulsory assignments

  • Written assignment in literature
  • Written assignment in civilisation
  • Mandatory attendance in all teaching activities, including excursions and conferences

Further on evaluation

Assessment:

Written exam in literature (4 hours) and written exam (4 hours) in civilisation.

Each of the exams are graded separately. Each exam counts for 50% of the final grade. Only the final grade will be listed on official diplomas and transcripts of records from NTNU.

Both exams must receive the grade E or better in order for the student to receive a passing grade. If a student fails one or both parts of the exam, they must retake both parts of the exam. If a student resits a passed exam, they must retake both parts of the exam.

The exam must be answered in French.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
French with Didactics (ÅFRANCAEN)

Required previous knowledge

Requires admission to the one-year programme in French with didactics in Caen.
