Course content

FVP2004 is an advanced undergraduate course in film and video production that focuses on traditions and theory related to the documentary film, and the role of the documentary filmmaker in society.







Learning outcome

Knowledge
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have knowledge of:
- the history of documentary films
- different genres of documentary
- central theories and concepts of documentary as a film genre
- central concepts of documentary film theory
- the different forms of expression and distinctive features in documentary films
- the ethical responsibilities of the documentary filmmaker

Upon successful completion of this course, students will know how to:
- account for the development of the most prominent periods in the history of documentary
- account for the most important concepts within the theory of film documentary
- conduct an analysis of a documentary film
- discuss the responsibilities of the documentary filmmaker towards society and community

Learning methods and activities

The course has different forms of instruction, for example lectures, seminars, film screenings and group tutorials.

Students are required to check the result of their assignments and to stay updated on any information given by the department or course director via Blackboard.

This course is taught in Norwegian only.

The final assessment is based on a 4-hour written examination.
