Course content
The course gives a general overview of the development of geography as a dicipline from the 1950s until today where emphasis is placed on the ideas, traditions and philosophies which have been the most influential throughout this period. The majority of the lectures revolve around current key concepts, debates and philosophical perspectives.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: By the end of the course the candidate will have advanced knowledge about present debates, concepts and philosophical perspectives in geography.
Skills: The candidate will identify and analyze key mechanisms underlying conceptual and philosophical Developments in the discipline.
General competence: Exercise in academic analyze.
Learning methods and activities
20 hours lectures.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Geografi (MGEOG)
Lektorutdanning i geografi (MLGEOG)
Required previous knowledge
Completed GEOG1000, GEOG1001, GEOG1003, GEOG1004, GEOG1005, GEOG1007 and GEOG2010. Other relevant qualifications can be accepted upon approval by the Department of Geography.
