About the course

Course content

The course gives a survey of current research in the field work and health. Elements are literature research, research design, and scientific writing. The students will get a defined syllabus adjusted to the chosen PhD theme. The students shall use the achieved knowledge in elucidation of a SHE case of relevance.
The course is given when needed.

Learning outcome

The course position and function in the PhD program:
The intention of the course is to be a common course for all PhD students at IØT dealing with issues within the work and health field. The specific content of the course will be adapted to fit the students’ PhD projects and needs.

Knowledge:
The course will provide an understanding of the forefront of knowledge in the field.
The course will provide knowledge and understanding of the thinking on the various factors related to work and health with a particular focus on factors relevant to the issues of the PhD project.
The course will provide knowledge to understand the content of the scientific literature in the field.
The course will provide knowledge of important theoretical approaches to the field.

Skills:
The course will provide skills in formulating research questions and fix the limits of issues appropriate for the scope of an article.
The course will provide skills in finding scientific literature and applying this in one’s own research.
The course will provide practice in writing scientific articles in the field.

Competence:
The course encourages critical thinking around established truths and “schools” in the field.
The course contributes to an awareness of the importance of ethical dilemmas at work research and management of work environment factors.

Lectures and guidance.
