IDG2201 - Design Systems and Universal Design for Digital Interfaces

About

Lessons are not given in the academic year 2023/2024

Course content

Design systems and universal design for digital interfaces is a practical design project centered around prototyping for digital interfaces and services. The students work in small (preferably interdisciplinary) groups with projects that results in a "high fidelity" prototype. Based on a presented case, through an iterative design process, a design system related to the principles of universal design is developed and presented. Students will become better acquainted with universal design and design systems including style and design guides and guidelines for content, as well as techniques and use of pattern libraries; in prototyping.

Learning outcome

The students will be able to plan, adopt, adapt and create design systems for digital interfaces. They will be able to develop a digital solution that meets the minimum requirements for web solutions and have knowledge of rules and regulations for enterprises in the public sector.

Through practical work and report writing, the student acquires knowledge about:

  • Design of universally designed digital interfaces
  • Current laws og regulations within universal design, WAD and WCAG
  • Functional and perceptual patterns and components
  • Experience with iterative development of design systems and implementation in prototypes
  • UU testing
  • The role of digital design in a societal setting

After completing the course, the student has a good starting point for being able to develop and design universally designed and consistant products as a professional designer. In addition, the use of established industry tools is internalized through repetitive exercises.
