Course content
Random signals and noise. Signal transmission. Baseband digital modulation techniques. Bandpass digital modulation techniques (ASK, PSK, FSK, QAM). Error rate analysis. Error control coding. Introduction to standardized wireless systems (5G/6G, WiFi, Bluetooth, IoT).
Learning outcome
Knowledge - The candidate shall be able to:
- Understand random signals and noise.
- Describe baseband digital modulation techniques.
- Explain bandpass digital modulation techniques.
- Describe error control coding techniques.
- Know about standard wireless systems.
Skills - The candidate shall be able to:
- Apply signal transmission concepts.
- Analyze the error rate performance of digital transmission systems.
General competence - The candidate shall be able to:
- Apply appropriate computational tools for system simulation.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures. Mandatory exercises.
The number of training exercises and laboratory tasks are given at semester start. The mandatory activities must be delivered according to given deadlines and must be approved to be allowed to take the exam.

Written digital exam. Grade: Letter grade.
If there is a resit exam in August, the examination form may change from written to oral.
Approved work requirements from earlier years might be reapproved by the institute.
