Course content

The Bachelor's thesis is carried out within the course's subject areas and according to the handbook for bachelor thesis.

Learning outcome

Knowledge- The candidate

  • has in-depth knowledge of a selected topic in chemistry
  • has knowledge of research and development work within the topic

Skills- The cadnidate

  • can identify, formulate, analyze and solve a relevant engineering problem both independently and as part of a team.
  • can apply knowledge and discuss relevant results from research and development work to solve theoretical, technical and practical issues within the topic of the bachelor's thesis, and justify their choices.
  • masters engineering methods and working methods, and is able to work methodically.
  • can plan, document, implement, communicate and lead the engineering work
  • can reflect on the assignment's contribution to sustainable solutions and the potential for innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship

General competence- The candidate

  • can integrate acquired knowledge and skills and is able to acquire new knowledge in solution of the assignment's problem
  • has insight into scientific integrity and an understanding of ethical issues
  • has insight into the economic, health, environmental and societal consequences of products and solutions within their area of ​​expertise, and can put these into an ethical life-cycle perspective
  • conveys professional knowledge to various target groups both in writing and orally in Norwegian and English and helps to highlight the importance and consequences of the subject
  • aware of the ongoing digitization within the engineering profession
  • able to use knowledge and skills from several subject areas in the study

Learning methods and activities

Conducted in groups of 2-3 students

The working form is as described in the bachelor's manual and is an independent student-driven project work. Expected time spent is 600-650 hours of project work.

Further on evaluation

The bachelor thesis and any product are assessed as a whole. Group grades are used on a scale of A - F.

If the bachelor thesis is assessed as failed or grade F, the student (s) must submit a new answer. Improvement / reworking is not sufficient. The thesis can present the same topic area with the same empirical / data basis. A bachelor's thesis that has been assessed as passed cannot be submitted for a new assessment, even in a revised form. It is not possible to voluntarily repeat the bachelor thesis. Digital submission and possibly in paper format.

Required previous knowledge

Study requirements. Access to the course requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, NTNU Trondheim.

In order to start the bachelor's thesis in engineering, students must have passed a minimum of 112.5 credits out of 120 credits from the study plan from the first two years of the engineering degree. See bachelor's handbook for additional rules
