Course content

The design process:
- Reframing.
- Finding out.
- Analysis.
- Conseptualisation.
- Sketching.
- Iterative prototyping and testing.
- Embodiment.
- Making.

Prepress:
- Digital source material and formats.
- Image editing and preparation for print.
- Fundamentals of colour management.
- Page makeup.
- Optimisation for print.
- Digital workflow.
- Proofing.

Printing, binding, and finishing:
- Imposition.
- Printing substrates.
- Paper qualities.

Digital publishing:
- File formats and standards for digital publication.
- Basic planning for e-book publication.
- Fundamentals of HTML and CSS.

Learning outcome

The students shall know current methods used for producing printed matter. They shall know the modes of operation and the capacity of machinery used for prepress and printing. They shall also be able to recognize production processes and suitable materials for specific end products and specific production processes.

Lectures and workshops.

Compulsory assignments
- Exercises (must have been approved by lecturer)
- Up to four group assesments

If failed: New Portfolio must be developed the next time the course is run.
