Course content

-Basic concepts of database and database management systems.
-Conceptual data modeling with Entity Relationship Diagram.
-Introduction to relational model, constraints and relational algebra.
-Logical database design and normalization.
-SQL for defining, manipulating and querying database.
-Database security and authorization.
-Introduction to transaction processing and concurrency control.
-XML data and XML Schema.
-Transformation of XML data by XSLT.

Learning outcome

After completing the course successfully, the student will be able to:
-Recognize the features of database and database management systems.
-Create conceptual model for a specific application.
-Explain the characteristics and constraints of relational model.
-Understand and express queries in SQL.
-Describe structuring and management of semi-structured data in XML.

After completing the course successfully, the student acquires the skills to:
-Create and assess conceptual and associated logical data model for a specific application.
-Construct a specific relational database solution based on conceptual and logical models.
-Use SQL for defining, manipulating and querying database.
-Apply XML technologies for semi-structured data and transform data between different formats.
