The brief history of mobile technology
Attributes of modern smartphone and tablet computers
Web-based content versus custom apps for mobile devices
HTML, CSS and Javascript for mobile devices
Accessibility and Universal design in a mobile context

Learning outcome
Knowledge
After successfully completing this course, the students will know the characteristics, including the limitations and possibilities of modern smartphone devices. They will also have knowledge about how the open web standards and technologies is adapted to - and can be used to present information on modern smartphone and tablet devices. The students will also know more about the key accessibility challenges that users of small-screen devices face, and how to design web-based user interfaces for these kinds of devices.
SkillsAfter completing the course, the students will be able to create web-based content for mobile devices using the latest open web standards including HTML, CSS and Javascript. They will also know how to use different methods of measuring accessibility and be able to use those results to improve a web solution for mobile users.
General competences
After completing this course, the students will be able to participate in a range of projects where creating, adapting or evaluating solutions for small-screen mobile devices is involved.

Student will work individually to solve exercises throughout the course, but will also be required to provide constructive feedback to their peers.
Lecture notes, e-lectures and other types of e-learning material will be offered through Fronter. Communication between the teachers and the students, and among the students, will be facilitated through Fronter.

Additional information
The course will require access to a smartphone or a tablet device that includes a web browser and supports the current web standards and open formats. GUC have a few devices that the students may borrow, but for the best possible learning outcome the students are asked to bring their own devices.
