Course content
This course offers participants the opportunity for both professional and personal development. Through teaching, practical assignments, and reflection, students will develop the skills to think and act as a project leader within their own work environment. The course places particular emphasis on planning and implementing a realistic and feasible project in the workplace, based on actual needs and available resources.
Learning outcome
Knowledge
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Develop and justify a project proposal that can be implemented in their own workplace.
- Analyze and apply methods suitable for project work with children and adolescents.
- Identify and discuss ethical dilemmas that may arise in work with children and adolescents, and propose solutions based on professional and legal frameworks.
- Reflect on their own role in the work environment, both as a colleague and as a potential leader, and assess how personal development influences daily practice.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, management, and other relevant stakeholders to anchor and implement a project.
Skills
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Plan, structure, and evaluate small development projects.
- Use communication strategies for dialogue with colleagues and management.
- Select and apply methods and practical approaches in work with children and adolescents.
- Address ethical perspectives and dilemmas in professional practice.
- Reflect critically and demonstrate self-awareness as a basis for professional and personal development.
General Competence
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of projects that strengthen practice and the work environment.
- Collaborate constructively with colleagues and management to promote inclusion and well-being in work with children and adolescents.
- Integrate professional knowledge, ethical considerations, and personal reflection in practical project work.
Learning methods and activities
The course is online and has no fixed teaching schedule. This allows students to access digital learning resources whenever it suits them. It also makes it possible for students to work while studying.
Learning methods include videos, recorded lectures presenting theoretical content, podcasts, exercises, quizzes, and self-study of the syllabus literature.
Students will be encouraged to share experiences and real-life challenges with fellow students. This will take place in small groups and will be organized and conducted digitally within the group.
Throughout the course, there will be assignments and mandatory tasks to complete and submit to the instructor. There will be four mandatory tasks submitted as part of a portfolio. These tasks, together with a final reflection, constitute the portfolio exam for the course.
Further on evaluation
Portfolio assessment, digital portfolio with 4 assignments that must be completed and approved in Canvas by a specified deadline (see exam date). The exam assignments will be given in the language of instruction for the course.
Grading scale: Pass / Fail.

Admission to a programme of study is required:

Continuing Education at Department of Social Work (EVUISA)
Required previous knowledge
The student must have general university admission qualifications (GSK) and at least two years of experience in direct work with children and adolescents, for example from kindergarten, school, health or social services, institutions, voluntary work, or similar.
