About

About the course

Course content

In many areas of society, we are witnessing a shift in focus from individual digital solutions to complete digital services. This applies, for example, to health, education, transportation, commerce, finance, and public administration. Available technology, user needs, and service requirements drive how digital services are developed and implemented.

The course provides students with an introduction to the principles and methods of digital service design. Through theory and practice, students learn to design user-centered, efficient, and innovative digital services. The course focuses on user involvement, interaction design, technology integration, and sustainable service development. Students will work with case studies, develop prototypes, and explore how digital services can be designed to deliver good user experiences.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The course will provide students with insights into the complexities of digital service design processes, including how various factors such as technology, user needs, organizational structures, and societal conditions influence design choices. Students will learn to navigate this complexity by analyzing and understanding the dynamics between different stakeholders, as well as how collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches can contribute to creating holistic and sustainable services.

Skills: Students will be able to use relevant methods and techniques in service design, such as service blueprints, user journeys, prototyping, co-design, stakeholder analysis, personas, scenario development, touchpoint mapping, journey mapping, design thinking, iterative testing, and the evaluation of user experience and service quality.

General Competencies: Through project work, students will have gained experience in service design, enabling them to lead relevant activities and processes and constructively guide service providers.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and group assignments.

Further on evaluation

Each group has to submit project deliverables during the semester and a final report. The final report is a collection of these submissions and is the basis for the grade in the course.

In the event of voluntary repetition, fail (F) or valid absence, all course-activities must be retaken in a semester with teaching. Evaluations are only held in semesters with teaching.
