Course content

The course gives a further introduction to Japanese language with emphasis on pronunciation, grammar and the vocabulary necessary to engage in conversations.

Learning outcome

Knowledge
The candidate will attain
- knowledge of approximately 100 Chinese characters
- knowledge of approximately 600 Japanese words
- basic knowledge of the structure of Japanese sentences
- basic knowledge of Japanese pronunciation and intonation
- basic knowledge of important sides of Japanese culture related to vocabulary

Skills
The candidate will develop skills to
- read and write simple texts such as letters and e-mails where Japanese characters and Chinese characters are used
- understand clearly enunciated Japanese spoken at a slower pace than normal
- be able to have simple conversations about her/his own thoughts, feelings and opinions
- be able to tell the polite expressions from the more informal ones, and use suitable expressions in various contexts

Lectures, exercises, obligatory assignments

Compulsory assignments

  • 1 oral presentation (10-20 minutes)

Further on evaluation

If the candidate does not pass the exam there is no need to deliver new assignments in order to qualify for another first retry.

An introduction to Japanese, for example: "An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese" (ch 7-12) or a similar text.
