Course content

Chemistry research and development project. The project topic is chosen in cooperation with the supervisor within research activities in chemistry at the Department. The research project will include several of the following components: planning and carrying out a limited chemical research Project in chemistry, based on literature or local Chemical expertise, Production of data, structuring and adequate interpretation of them; setting up and testing hypotheses; finding and making uses of new literature; writing a research project report.

Learning outcome

The Specialization project aims at giving the students some closer knowledge in the chosen theme, and work experience in research based project work. After finishing course the student should: - be able to acquire on his/her own a good and up-to-date knowledge relevant to the given project from the literature; - be able to account for, and apply, the theoretical foundation of the actual project; - be able to explain how own research results are connected with previous knowledge in the field and with adjacent areas of science; - be able to account for his/her actual work done, and to extract and critically evaluate the results of it; - be able to present his/her research results in a written report; - master the standard working tools for the relevant scientific discipline which were needed to work for the actual project; - Work in a research team; - Have acquired the necessary HSE knowledge and safe working practices.

Learning methods and activities

Individual research project with academic supervision. English teaching by request. A written final report is to be delivered and one or two presentation(s) (oral, poster etc.) may have to be given during and/or at the end of the project. The evaluation will be based on the performance in the project work and in the written final report.

Further on evaluation

If the report is evaluated as Not Passed or F, a new, or a revised report with significant changes may be submitted for evaluation one more time.
