Course content

The course aims to promote knowledge and use of cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) in clinical practice, offering participants the opportunity to meet well-known experts in the field, assist in live demonstrations of CPET and discuss clinical cases. The whole spectrum of CPET applications in cardiology will be addressed by the course, with a special focus on the use of CPET for exercise training prescription and prognostic stratification in cardiac patients. The course is hosted in collaboration with by NORHEART - The Norwegian PhD School of Heart Research.

Learning outcome

The course aims to give insight into exercise physiology, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and exercise training fundamentals.

After completing and passed the course the researcher will know the basics of: Exercise physiology; Cardiopulmonary exercise test interpretation; Cardiac and respiratory abnormalities; Practical aspects of cardiopulmonary exercise testing; How to set up and implement an exercise training program

Learning methods and activities

The course includes two days of lectures and practical demonstrations in groups. You have to participate in at least 80 % of the teaching to be allowed to take the exam. Attendance at lectures will be registered.

Required previous knowledge

Master degree or currently PhD-candidate or student at the research program for medical students.
