About

About the course

Course content

The purpose of the course is to introduce students to the master's thesis as a research genre and to ensure that students develop an adequately justified research design for their final master's thesis. The course is based on KRIG3100 and means that students work independently with literature relevant to the master's thesis but will be assigned a supervisor early in the course. Although students are expected to work independently, the work on the research design will take place under supervision.

Learning outcome

A candidate who has passed the course is expected to have the following learning outcomes in accordance with the course description, defined as knowledge and skills:

Knowledge

The candidate has

  • good overview of academic literature and research status within the topic chosen for the master's thesis
  • good understanding of what constitutes a relevant research design within the chosen topic

Skills

The candidate has the ability to:

  • orientate him-/herself in current academic literature
  • plan the implementation of a research project
  • prepare a justified research design for the chosen thesis topic
  • present a concrete project design in writing

Learning methods and activities

The course is taught via a digital platform. The platform may include short lectures, conversations and brief written teaching material. Joint teaching takes place in the first part of the course. A physical gathering is offered early in the course, where students are assigned a supervisor. Individual counselling is arranged with the supervisor and takes place digitally. Occasionally, the digital counselling can be conducted as group counselling.

Students must enter into a supervision agreement with the supervisor within the set deadline.

Further on evaluation
