About the course

Course content

The course is to prepare the students to make use of their STS-background by learning to work on a project and self management. The students are also going to learn to produce, evaluate and manage research based knowledge. The course is to support the development and doing of their master project.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE

By the end of the course students have knowledge of

  • Planning a master thesis project
  • Scientific writing and supervision

SKILLS

At the end of the course students can

  • develop a project plan and communicate a projects ideas, goals, preconditions, challenges and sollutions
  • practice self management and lead a small project
  • Writing academically and evaluating scientific texts

Learning methods and activities

The course is practical and lectures are followed by exercises related to ongoing projects/own and others' master projects both individually and in groups. Exercises announced in Blackboard.

  • Up to four work requirements in different formats which are delivered both individually and in groups. Assessed as pass or fail
  • Participation in 2/3 or the teaching

It is mandatory participation in teaching, with 1/3 (33%) non-participation allowed. Students that cannot meet the mandatory participation have to pass a written test with extra pensum.

Compulsory assignments

  • Compulsory attendance, 2/3 of the teaching
  • Four compulsory assignments

Further on evaluation

Semester assignment. Final assessment requires approved work requirements and attendance at classes.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Science and Technology Studies (STS) (MSTS)

Required previous knowledge

Students must have admission to the Master's program in MSTS (Studies of Knowledge, Technology and Society)
