Course content
The course gives an introduction to programming, software engineering and XML technology. You will learn about programming in a given development tool, software engineering (system work) with teamwork in a project with link to data storage. You will also be introduced to XML technology and adjoining standards for storage and representation of semi-structural data.
The course content has transfer value for work with digital documentation in varied institutions and businesses.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
The student
- is familiar with basic building blocks in programming
- knows the principles and advantages of object-oriented programming
- has knowledge of different system development models and knows how a system development project is managed, documented and implemented
- knows how an XML document is built up (tree structure) and how XML Schema is used to validate (set requirements) structure and data content of the document
- knows some practical usage examples of xml and oasis, related to specific examples of standards
Skills:
The student
- masters simple programming against files and relational databases
- can participate actively in teams for to design requirements for a future information system
- can use one given development environment in code development
- manages to identify errors in program code
General competence:
The student
- can create structured program code that solves simple problems by analyzsing given issues
- can use information models to document the information system's vision, user requirements, and simple system requirements
- can apply the principal understanding of programming, standards and how databases work to various digital work tools

- Compulsory work requirements in accordance with the course description

Mandatory activities
- Conduct a system development project that may include programming and possibly XML
- 5 ICT exercises
Mandatory activities are assessed on a pass-fail basis and must be passed in order for the student to take the course exam.
