About the course

Course content

The content may vary, but the course normally contains the following topics: topological spaces, metric spaces, continuous functions, product topologies, separation, quotient topologies, nets and filters, countability, compactness, metrizable spaces, connectedness.

Learning outcome

1. Knowledge. The student has knowledge of fundamental concepts and methods in general topology.

2. Skills. The student is able to apply his or her knowledge of general topology to formulate and solve problems of a topological nature in mathematics and other fields where topological issues arise.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures. The lectures will be given in English if they are attended by students from the Master's Programme in Mathematics for International students. If the course is taught in English, the exam will be given only in English. Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.
