About the course
Course content
The content may vary, but the course normally contains the following topics:
metric spaces,
continuous functions,
topological spaces,
product topologies,
quotient topologies,
nets and filters,
separation,
compactness and
connectedness.
Learning outcome
1. Knowledge. The student has knowledge of fundamental concepts and methods in general topology.
2. Skills. The student is able to apply his or her knowledge of general topology to formulate and solve problems of a topological nature in mathematics and other fields where topological issues arise.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures. The lectures will be given in English if the course is attended by students who don't master a Scandinavian language. If the course is taught in English, the exam will be given only in English. The students may answer either in Norwegian or English. Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.

TMA4100 Calculus 1 and
TMA4105 Calculus 2 or
MA1101 Basic Calculus I,
