Course content
Pressure vessels thin- and -thick walled, tolerances and fits, pressure and crimp connections, "rigid" threads and screws, calculation of statically loaded welds, wedge joints, rolling and plain bearings, couplings, brakes and clutches, springs.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: The candidate has knowledge of: The properties and applications of steel as construction material; Design and functioning of machine parts; Calculation and engineering design; Use of standards and catalogs.
Skills: The candidate is able to design machine elements according to functional requirements.
General competence: The candidate has insight into the technical consequences of chosen solutions within his / her field of expertise. The candidate can use his / her own skills and can communicate results orally and in writing in collaboration with other engineers.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures. Exercises: 2/3 of the exercises must be approved to take the exam. The class is divided into teams, each team is responsible for 1 exercise (prepare and peer-guide the exercise and present a proposed solutions and selected aspects to the exercise topic).

Mandatory requirement: The number of exercises is announced at the start of the semester. 2/3 of the exercises must be approved to take the exam. Each student has to prepare and peer-review an exercise in a team (compulsory participation and attendance). Oral presentation of selected aspects related to the topic of the exercise and the proposed solution to the exercise in a team (compulsory participation and attendance).
