About the course
Course content
The first part of this course focuses on the brain and central nervous system. The students are taught how these systems work, and some psychiatric functions are included. The functions and anatomy of the eye, ear and vocal chords are also subjects in this semester. "Growth and development" is an important subject in the first semester. This includes conception, embryology, birth, infant and juvenile development, aging process and death. Genetics and pelvic anatomy are taught in the first semester. Lectures on ethics and statistics are included. The second semester starts microbiology, immunology, endocrinology and nephrology. Then follows lectures in environmental medicine, pharmacology and toxicology. There is also a session about knowledge management. The last part of the semester is devoted to pathology. Throughout the semester there will be relevant lab courses and microscopy practice. In the middle of the semester the course in communication is finished with an oral exam.

Problem-based learning (PBL), lectures (basal and clinical), courses, seminars, examination and communication courses, visits to general practitioners.

Successfully completed 1 year of medical school.
