About the course
Course content
In semester IID the teaching includes the following topics: obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, child and adolescent psychiatry, endocrinology, nephrology, urology, radiology/imaging, global health, infectious diseases and microbiology, pharmacology and pathology. The teaching is organised in thematic weeks. Lectures, clinics, seminars and courses are given on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Clinical teaching and PBL (problem based learning) are given wednesdays and thursdays. In addition to the respective clinical departments, other departments and institutes are also involved in the teaching. All norwegian students (except foreign students) will, during autumn in the 4th year, choose their topic for their main thesis, get a supervisor and submit a protocol before January 31st next semester. For mandatory teaching activity, a maximum of 15% unauthorized absence from this course is allowed.
This course is common to the students in Trondheim and in the study program Link and has the same academic content, learning goals and exam. The Link students, however, have their study base in Levanger.
Learning outcome
There are several learning objectives related to the semester subjects. These objectives are found at the MH-faculty`s home pages.
Learning methods and activities
Problem-based learning (PBL), skills-lab, lectures, courses, seminars, clinical rotation in the hospital. PBL and clinical rotation is mandatory. Maximum 15% absence from this teaching is allowed.
The teaching language will be English.

If the students don't pass IID in the autumn semester, they are allowed to continue in IIC in the following spring semester. Resit exam will go on in august. The students who do not pass the exam will have to resit only the part of the exam they did not pass, i.e. either the oral or the written exam (or both).

Required previous knowledge
Admission to CMED and successfully completed 3 year of medical school (MD4030).
