About the course

Course content

The course aims to promote knowledge and use of endurance and strength training for cardiac patients, and offers the participants the opportunity to meet experts in the field and discuss practical applications. The whole spectrum of recommendations, planning and implementation of exercise training for cardiac patients in a setting of personal training and coaching will be addressed. Additionally, the course focuses on the use of eHealth tools for physical activity monitoring, follow-up and motivation of patients with lifestyle diseases. The students will also learn basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The course is hosted in collaboration with NorEx – den The Norwegian Trial of Physical Exercise After Myocardial Infarction, the Cardiac Exercise Research Group and the National advisory unit for exercise as medicine.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The student has:

  • Basic knowledge of exercise physiology, exercise principles, cardiac abnormalities and lifestyle disorders, as well as lifestyle changes in patients with heart disease
  • knowledge of effective and safe use of cardiovascular and strength training in heart patients
  • knowledge of planning and conducting training in heart patients - knowledge of the use of eHealth tools and activity monitors for monitoring, follow-up and motivating patients with lifestyle disease
  • knowledge of the principles of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Skills

The student can:

  • plan and carry out effective cardiovascular and strength training in heart patients
  • use various types of eHealth tools and activity monitors for monitoring, follow-up and motivating patients with lifestyle disease

General competence

The student has:

  • insight into basic exercise physiology, training principles, cardiac abnormalities and lifestyle disorders, lifestyle changes and special conditions in patients with heart disease
  • competence in planning and carrying out effective and safe training in various patient groups with cardiovascular and lifestyle disease

Learning methods and activities

The course is digital and includes online lectures, individual practical work with patients and a written report. You have to complete the practical work to qualify to get evaluation of exam.
