Course content

Through cycle 1, the student will acquire knowledge of pupils at levels 1-7, their learning and development, as well as skills in planning, conducting, and evaluating teaching. The work the teacher does to create a positive learning environment for all pupils in a school characterized by social, religious and cultural diversity, is central to success in Pedagogy and Pupil-Related Skills 1. The student will develop a reflective and critical research perspective on the school`s activities, as well as his or her own practice. The course also comprises the students' development pf Professional Digital Competence (PfDK).

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The student has

  • a broadened knowledge of central didactic principles, including varied forms of work and assessment
  • knowledge of how basic skills and deep learning can contribute to the learning and development of the students
  • broadened competence in interactivity, and has experienced how this can contribute to learning
  • broadened knowledge about motivation, and how this can be promoted for better learning
  • developed knowledge about varied perspectives on learning environment, classroom management, and leadership for learning
  • knowledge of different methods of observation
  • knowledge of and experience in how practical, creative and aesthetic learning processes can influence learning

Skills

The student can

  • apply subject concepts, justify and reflect on didactic choices and use this in the planning, implementation and assessment of teaching and learning
  • reflect on learning and learning processes and guide students in their development through the construction of constructive and inclusive learning environments
  • use some digital tools to promote learning
  • make plans and implement observations

General competence

The student can

  • -plan, implement and evaluate teaching for the pupils based on existing framework factors and current curriculum
  • demonstrate experience in, and can reflect on and apply research-based knowledge in exercising effective classroom management as a way of building safe and inclusive learning environments
  • show beginning insight in the transfer between general didactic principles and exercising teaching

Learning methods and activities

Pedagogy and Pupil-Related Skills 1 (1-7) is adapted as a problem-based topic based on collaborative learning with various academic anchors in combination with seminar work. Each problem-based work will have a common start and end.

Assessment system - exam

Portfolio assessment: The portfolio will contain a digital web site about the Norwegian school, made in groups. In addition, each candidate must submit an individual reflection that will describe the candidate`s reflections around professional and social interactions in connection to the development of the web site.

The portfolio will also contain an individual assignment where the candidate must show the ability to make visible an understanding of the connection between theory from the syllabus and practice and of their personal development of the teacher role.
