Course content

Arts & crafts 2, builds on Arts & crafts 1 (1-7) course 1 and Arts & crafts 1 (1-7) course 2 and will contribute to in-depth knowledge of practical work and skills in the workshops with accompanying didactic reflection. The course contributes to expanded insight into the subject's visual and material cultural anchoring. Through the study, the student will further develop their own analogue and digital skills in the subject and gain experience with a selection of materials, working methods and mindsets. Exploratory work shall promote the student's learning, independence, ingenuity and ability to implement within the core elements of the subject.

The course includes work on an R&D assignment that provides experience in planning, implementing, presenting and critically-constructively evaluating a research and development work within the arts and crafts subject. The main focus of the R&D thesis is the acquisition of knowledge, skills and competence to carry out the research and development project on which the thesis is to be based.

The course provides an introduction to theory of science and research methods that will contribute to the development of the student's independence, analytical skills and critical reflection.

Learning methods and activities

Learning methods and activities

The learning methods in the course are of a practical and theoretical nature that take place in varied learning environments. It alternates between own creative work, subject didactics and theory.

The R&D assignment makes up half of the course. Designing, implementing, presenting and critically-constructively evaluating arts and crafts research and development projects are key activities.

The forms of work in the course include workshops, workshop work, lectures, excursions, individual and group assignments. Reflection on one's own and others' work is central.

Self-study is a central form of work in the study.

Mandatory activities:

The following activities are compulsory:

- Introduction and summary of the subject's core elements: craft skills, art and design processes, visual communication and cultural understanding.

- Three colloquium assignments from work with the syllabus.

- Present a sketch of your own R&D assignment at the students' R & D seminar.

- Give a critical-constructive response to a fellow student's sketch for an R&D assignment.

- Introduction and summary of R&D project and R&D conference.

- Up to 3 excursions.

In the event of absence from an excursion, compensatory work will be provided.

Mandatory work requirements are assessed with approved / not approved.

Assessment part 1, assignment: R&D assignment:

Students must deliver:

A written assignment and an exhibition or a practical art didactic work, both of which must answer an overall problem for the project.

The F&D issue is thus answered in two modalities:

a) in writing; and

b) artistic or as an art didactic-development-project-in-practice.

Overall, the written assignment, exhibition or art didactic-development project-in-practice constitutes the students' R&D assignment. Assessment part 1 is assessed as passed / failed. An improved assignment may be submitted for assessment only once.

Assessment part 2, works: Individual exhibition of creative works from the areas of art, design and architecture. rating scale A-F.

There will be features in character if not all the assignments have been submitted for exhibition.

Both Part 1 and Part 2 must be passed to pass the course.

New / postponed exams are conducted in accordance with current study regulations at NTNU.

Partial assessments can be taken up or improved individually. It is possible to appeal a grade given on parts of the assessment (not oral/practical examination).

Assessment report requires approved teaching report the same semester. Compulsory activity from previous semesters can be approved by the department.

Primary and Lower Secondary Teacher Education for Years 1-7 (MGLU1-7) - some programmes
