About the course
Course content
The course includes advanced topics within the wood-based composite materials and the building technology for timber construction. Application and design of CLT, glulam and wood-concrete composite as construction components and elements in various types of timber constructions will be addressed. Building technology and structural design of the timber constructions will be discussed.
Learning outcome
The candidate:
- will gain a deep understanding of the wood-based composite materials and their applications in various types of timber constructions.
- Will be able to understand the basic principles within building technology for timber structures for increased sustainability and economic efficiency in the construction industry.
- Will have good knowledge of the structural design of the timber constructions and will be able to apply their skills and choose appropriate methods for simulation and analysis of the timber constructions.
Learning methods and activities
The form of learning is essentially lectures, project work and exercises.
If less than 6 students take the course, it will mainly be conducted as guided self-study.
Communication between tutor and student is organized through a digital learning platform.

Further on evaluation
The grades are set based on delivered project. Details regarding the project deliveries will be described in the project description that will be published in the course. If failed, new project assignment has to be delivered according to agreement with course coordinator.
Up to 4 mandatory assignments must be delivered according to plan and approved.
There may be up to 6 compulsory seminar days. Compulsory seminar days will be specified in a course plan distributed at the beginning of the semester.
To have access to the exam/project delivery, the mandatory requirements must be approved.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Building Informatics and Wood Constructions (MIBIT)
Recommended previous knowledge
Basic knowledge of wood material and mechanics.
