Course content

The subject builds upon the contains of Instrument and Performing A.
Individual lessons in main instrument with big emphasis on independent work, including group lessons with technical practice and specific main-instrumental themes. The subject emphasizes concert training, and the student must participate in at least two concerts during the academic year with solo or chamber musical repertoire. At least one of the concert must be part of Department of Music's own concerts. The concerts are to be documented and approved in the semester reports. Participation in choir as an arena for practical aural training, and developing understanding in aural training.
Compulsory course in Conducting gives the students practical experience in leading an ensemble through conducting, leading while being part of the ensemble yourself and so on.
The compulsory course in methodology and didactics is focused on practicing and learning strategies in a lifelong perspective.
Compulsory course in Instrument Knowledge/Voice Physiology: The course is primarily offered in the second year of study, but several classes containing few students from various instrument groups may be combined. As a result of this the student will be able to continue at MUSP4130/MUSP4170 without having completed this part of MUSP4160.

Knowledge:
The candidate
-has knowledge of and masters techniques for rehearsing, practice and preparing for performances
-has basic knowledge of the history, construction and functionality of her/his instrument
-has knowledge of the main lines of the repertoire of her/his instrument
-can describe the characteristics of artistic quality, assess her/his own and other students learning and give feedback that increases the learning
-has knowledge about the basic didactic conceptions and makes use of them in planning and working with the instrument

Learning methods and activities

-main instrument individual lessons for 27 weeks
-workmanship/technique in groups 1 hour per week for 13 weeks in fall term
-accompanying lessons 30 minutes per week for relevant instruments for 27 weeks
-methodology/didactics 1 hour per week for 13 weeks in fall term
-conducting/leading ensembles for 1 hour per week for 14 weeks in spring term
-concert forum 2 hours per week in until 25 weeks
-chamber music. Small and medium sized ensembles 2 hours per week in 13 weeks. Can be organized in projects
-Choir 1 hour per week for 20 weeks
-Friday concert
-Projects, various lessons
