Work Psychology and Organizational Psychology:
- Motivation and emotions
- Communication and persuasion
- Group psychology
Health, Environment and Safety:
- Prevention and environmental work on board regarding laws and regulations
- Preventive health and safety
- Risk and vulnerability: Accident identification, risk assessment and risk management in maritime operations
- Safety culture and national culture's influence on safety culture
- Emergency preparedness planning
- Work environment mapping
Cultural Understanding:
- The concept of culture (values, norms, symbols)
- Different academic and functionalistic perspectives on culture
- Cultural differences in communication, risk perception and collaboration in intercultural maritime work environments
- Regarding mandatory participation in group projects
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- Have knowledge of central themes within work psychology, organizational psychology, HMS and cultural understanding
- Have knowledge of laws and regulations that apply in connection with safety on board
- Have knowledge of risk and risk management in maritime operations
- Be able to use different and functionalistic perspectives to understand cultural differences
Skills:
- Be able to apply professional knowledge to practical problem-solving within HMS and organizational psychology
- Be able to identify, assess and manage risk in maritime operations
- Be able to implement work environment mapping
Competence:
- Have developed attitudes in connection with safety and management in a cultural context
- Be able to plan and implement HMS activities and risk management

Pedagogical methods: Lectures, assignment work, group work and presentations.
Mandatory work requirement:
Mandatory group assignment
Completed and passed course provides at least 80% attendance credit for HMS basic course (40 hours course).
