Course content
The course addresses two core elements in today's Norwegian classroom: a critical approach to texts and written text creation. Key topics include reading strategies, writing processes, and the understanding and assessment of various types of texts. Concepts and analytical methods from linguistics and literary studies will be applied in working with these topics. The course is seminar-based, and the learning methods require a high level of student participation.

Candidates who have passed this course can:
- reflect on writing processes and the assessment of texts within the Norwegian subject
- reflect on the development of reading and writing competence from a Norwegian subject perspective
- explain text types and text modalities
- explain key concepts and working/analytical methods related to approaches to writing and reading
Skills
Candidates who have passed this course can:
- make use of various approaches of work and analysis in writing and communicating literature
- develop, explain, and reflect upon a teaching plan for literacy teaching
- use and communicate relevant reading strategies for both nonfiction and fiction
- assess texts within the Norwegian subject and provide feedback
- recognize signs of dyslexia and adjust teaching accordingly
Learning methods and activities
The course consists of lectures and seminars, which include participation in writing groups. Theory and knowledge content will mainly be taught through self-study and online resources, while the seminars on campus require active student participation. The seminars will take place at times that do not conflict with student teaching in the 5th semester of the teacher education program.
Obligatory assignments: Up to 3 written and/or oral assignments
Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). Obligatory assignments from a previous semester may be approved by the department.

Examination arrangement: Term paper formed as an academic paper. Students must pass and have all obligatory activities approved to submit the academic paper.
It is not possible for students who have passed the exam in NORD2601 to retake the exam in a semester where this course is not taught. Students who did not pass the exam, or who did not complete the exam due to illness may submit the exam in a semester where this course is not taught; however, they will not receive any supervision.
Recommended previous knowledge
First-year courses in Scandinavian studies (NORD1102, NORD1104, NORD1106, NORD1108) or equivalent.
