Course content
The course focuses on understanding the significance and relevance of theoretical issues in scholarly work with literary texts, and how to use theory and method when working with texts.
Learning outcome
The candidate has obtained a specialised and methodological knowledge, which may be applied when reflecting on one's own and others' research practice in order to elaborate on existing research.
Candidates will have obtained the following qualifications after successfully completing this course:
- analyze and assess theoretical and methodological perspectives in literary studies.
- assess and compare analyses of literary texts.
- present and reflect on scholarly practice in literary studies.
- obtain, analyze and distribute information from an archive of digitized literature.
- use and reflect upon tools such as collocation analysis, concordance lists, sentiment analysis, N-gram analysis.
- critically reflect on the epistemological and methodological challenges that digital literary studies confronts us with.
Learning methods and activities
Seminars. Students are expected to take active part in the seminars, with oral presentations, in discussions etc.

Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester).

Assessment: A 14-day take-home exam. Scope approx. 6000 words.
Specific conditions
Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.
Recommended previous knowledge
Bachelor's degree with specialization in Scandinavian Studies, or equivalent.
