About

About the course

Course content

This course is part of the full-time, post graduate teacher training programme (PPU). Alongside courses in pedagogy and practice, it will enable the candidate to serve as a teacher from year 5 to year 13. Guided practice is an integrated part of the programme. The course covers all aspects of teaching and students' learning within the subjects. Learning consists of both cognitive and affective factors, such as motivation, attitudes, identity and emotions. The course provides a basis for planning, implementing, assessing and reflecting upon teaching, based on research- and experience-based knowledge and theory. The learning aims for this course also include being able to analyse and see connections between a variety of perspectives, theories and research studies. Knowledge and insight into subject-didactic theory and research provides the competence needed to improve own practice and the school's activities, and to carry out systematic research and development work in school.

Learning methods and activities

Subject-didactics within this teacher training programme is taught over two semesters. Realization of the course objectives requires an interplay between subject disciplinary competence, teaching competence, acquisition of subject didactical theories and terminologies as well as reflection on own teaching practice and cooperation with the practice school. Teaching sessions will be varied and with exemplary working methods. There will be teaching both in the form of large and smaller groups with or without teacher guidance. Cross-curricular work will also be in focus through a group-based Research and Development work (R&D) that will be executed in one of the student's two subject-didactical courses.

Compulsory assignments

  • Courseworks for guideance
  • Semester assignment for guideance
  • 75% participation in teaching
  • Defines coursework

Further on evaluation

Defined work requirements are prepared in each subject didactics and made available to the students at the start of the semester. For students with two teaching subjects, the student chooses one of these as subject 1. Defined coursework requirements also consist of activities and supervision related to R&D work in the student's subject 1.

Assessment of the compulsory activity "Courseworks for guideance" and final assessment of the assessment part "Courseworks" takes place in the autumn semester. Assessment of the compulsory activity " Semester assignment for guideance" and final assessment of the assessment part "Semester assignment" will be carried out in the spring semester. For a detailed description of the assessment in the course, see the study and teaching plan and a separate document describing the R&D work.

A student who has not passed the course due to failing one of the sub-assessments only needs to submit for a new assessment in the part the student has failed. If the sub-assessments "Coursework" and "Semester assignment" fail, these can be submitted in an improved version one more time. The same applies to the repetition of a passed assessment. The course consists of two-part assessments, and the student(s) can appeal only when both partial grades in the course have been announced. The student must state which sub-assessment(s) the appeal concerns.

The exam must be written in the foreign language.
