Course content

PSYK4522 will provide experience with both the investigation of a theoretical problem with community-psychological relevance and project-oriented work aimed at community psychological or health promotion work with different age groups.

The student is given preparatory teaching in community psychology linked to a subsequent community psychology practice. Examples of topics that will be covered are systems work, the municipal psychologist's everyday work, Sami and minority perspectives, inclusion and working methods in practice.

The student is given experience in practical work within community psychology and must become familiar with both the professional opportunities and limitations associated with this professional practice. The project practice must be based on working methods, values ​​and approaches within community psychology and health promotion.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The student

  • has in-depth knowledge of practical and clinical community-psychology work in Norway
  • can apply professional knowledge to implement change work in groups and systems
  • can apply basic principles for guidance and consultation, and is able to carry out independent change work through others
  • has knowledge of inclusion, equality and non-discrimination, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion and outlook, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and age, so that the candidate contributes to ensuring equal services for all groups in society
  • has knowledge of, and understanding of, Sami rights and the Sami's status as an indigenous people

Skills:

The student

  • can apply their knowledge and skills in accordance with health and welfare policy guidelines for health promotion and preventive work, and to analyze ethical issues related to this
  • can apply their knowledge and skills to documentation and communication about public health, clinical, diagnostic and other professional topics towards patients/users, relatives, colleagues, partners, public administration and legal bodies
  • can analyze and critically assess knowledge about health promotion and preventive work, and independently apply relevant methods and working methods at different levels of intervention which also include an overall societal level

General competence:

The student

  • can contribute to users and citizens contributing to the development of equal services for all groups in society
  • can apply their knowledge to plan, manage and implement projects
  • can communicate with specialists, decision-makers and the general public about professional issues within health promotion and preventive work
  • can reflect on and apply knowledge that contributes to an equal service offer for all, including Sami patients.
  • can understand the individual in a context and critically analyze how social psychological approaches can be applied in a clinical context.
  • can apply knowledge of other professional groups' competence and areas of responsibility to interact both interdisciplinary, interprofessional, cross-sector and across businesses and levels, as well as initiate interaction to create good and coherent services for users
  • can contribute to critical reflection, new thinking, service innovation and systematic and quality-improving work processes as part of ensuring service quality and in the development of services

Learning methods and activities

Will include mandatory internship preparation lectures and seminars, and group guidance related to projects.

Submission of practice report and presentation of it in plenary.

The subject is evaluated in accordance with the Guidelines for the implementation and evaluation of clinical practice

  • 80% attendance at lectures
  • 80% participation in practice
