Course content

This course engages the student in learning and applying essential distinctions relevant to the experience of helping within organisational settings. The identification of more specialized knowledge and expertise suitable for coaching and leadership will enable the student to successfully meet the relevant demands of the workforce. Central to this course is the process of developing capacities for our growth as human beings and our ability to help facilitate this growth in others. Course pedagogy will include readings, classroom dialogue and lectures to enhance self-awareness as a tool for learning and developing advanced skills. The course will also apply this learning through practice and facilitate knowledge integration through reflection.

  • can apply relevant counselling skills in a coaching perspective in order to create a good coaching relationship and help coachees in their process of revealing important topics, focusing on development opportunities and goal-oriented activities.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures 6 days (7 hours each), plus 1-day class project presentation.

Obligatory activities:

  • 5 pre-class assignments in MyQuest before each gathering
  • literature review with peer evaluation of 1200-1500 words, in Blackboard
  • short essay on the student's coaching experiences 1000 words, in Blackboard
  • presentation of a videotaped coaching session
  • participation in lectures (80%)

Compulsory assignments

  • 5 pre-class assignments in MyQuest before each gathering
  • Lliterature review with peer evaluation of 1200-1500 words in Blackboard
  • Short essay on the student's coaching experiences 1000 words in Blackboard
  • Presentation of a videotaped coaching session
  • Obligatory attendance in the lectures (80%)

Further on evaluation

The final assignment consists of an essay of 5000-6000 words (1.15 line spacing, Verdana 10 pt.) with the student's description of his/her practical coaching experience. In Inspera. The deadline will be announced on the topic page.

Specific conditions

Required previous knowledge

As for admission to the master's program in counselling, master's program in learning in working life and society, master's program in education or master's program in psychology, or similar.

Students in the master’s programme in counselling will be prioritised.
