About

About the course

Course content

The course consists of a 3-day mandatory field-trip for new students (first semester), where one of the activities is to perform a case-study as team-work. There are guest lectures by external scientists from other universities, research institutes and private industry. In addition, each student has to give two progress presentations of their master´s project; 1) early in the study to discuss the hypothesis and the scientific plan, 2) towards the end of the study in a internal conference to discuss results and interpretations.

The seminars require active involvement and participation from students.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

  • A broad knowledge in the relevant research field through presentations and discussions in seminars.
  • From own and fellow students presentations, has achieved knowledge about theories and relevant methods and hypothesis testing, including experimental analysis, statistical techniques and other tools to analyse and solve issues in relevant research and management.
  • From presentations and group discussions achieved knowledge about UN´s sustainability goals, especially those concerning the environment, sustainability, and climate change on a local and global scale.

Skills

  • Ability to critically present own research methods and results in an understandable, and at the same time in scientific proper manner.
  • Ability to critically and constructively contribute to give feedback to the projects of fellow students.

General competence

  • Can present their own scientific methods and results.

Learning methods and activities

Work camp, case study, group work, presentations.

Autumn seminars: 2 autumn semesters (45 hours each semester). Mandatory (participation at minimum 75% of the seminars)
