About
About the course
Course content
This course is designed to provide students with a structured opportunity to apply, document, and critically reflect on the theoretical and policy-based knowledge acquired in SKOLE6715, within the context of their own workplace. The main focus is the practical implementation of high-quality physical education (PE).
Students will use research-based knowledge and relevant global and local governing documents to plan, implement, and evaluate didactic approaches that promote physical literacy, motivation, and human movement. A core component is documenting professional development through continuous reflection and dialogue with an identified professional (colleague, mentor, or staff member) within the student’s school or municipality. The course emphasizes the development of inclusive, engaging, and research-informed PE practice.
Learning outcome
Knowledge
The student:

- has in-depth knowledge of how relevant global and local governing documents guide the planning and implementation of high-quality PE.
- has thorough knowledge of how to create variation in the learning environment to ensure inclusive and high-quality PE for diverse groups of students.
Skills
The student:
- can analyse and reflect on authentic PE practice using national and international research.
- can use global and local governing documents as a basis for designing and evaluating students’ learning outcomes and planning contextually relevant, high-quality PE.
- can design, implement, and systematically evaluate didactic approaches in PE, informed by research and policy, with particular emphasis on assessing students’ learning outcomes.
- can plan and evaluate sequences of PE lessons at a chosen grade level, and effectively bridge theory, policy, and practice.
General Competence
The student:
- can analyse and evaluate relevant didactic and ethical issues.
- can document their own professional development through structured reflection and professional dialogue with a specialist in their own context.
Learning methods and activities
The course requires extensive independent practical work at the student’s own workplace. The learning process is characterised by an action-research methodology in which the student is expected to cyclically plan, implement, and evaluate teaching.
Compulsory assignments
- Focus Area 1
- Focus Area 2 & 3
- Reflective Dialogue
Further on evaluation
Mandatory activities:
The student must complete Workplace-based Practice, with documentation linked to three defined focus areas:
- Focus Area 1: Planning and Assessment (Didactic design, systematic evaluation of teaching, and assessment of students’ achievement in the subject, with clear grounding in local governing documents).
- Focus Areas 2 & 3: Two selected areas for in-depth practical work, chosen from the content of SKOLE6715.
- Reflective Dialogue: Structured reflection meetings concerning practice and the chosen focus areas with a selected professional at the student’s school or municipality.
Documentation of mandatory activities:
Workplace-based practice, confirmed by the school principal.
Assessment
Assessment type: Combined assessment (Portfolio and oral exam).
- Digital Practice Portfolio:The portfolio must document and reflect on the mandatory activities and demonstrate how the student has critically applied research-based knowledge and governing documents to improve their own teaching. The portfolio must be approved before the student can take the oral exam.
- Oral Exam:The student presents and defends the content of the approved practice portfolio. Additional questions from the curriculum will be asked.
