About the course

Course content

The course deals with sociological perspectives on organization and management, and their place in social life and culture. Organization and management are crucial in shaping our lives and society at all levels. The course examines different forms of social organization and political, economic and cultural institutions, as well as different forms of management both nationally and internationally. The course develops a deeper understanding of the central ideas and assumptions that shape the organization and management of our time and their decisive importance for people, society and social change.

The course is a subject area course for programmes within the study area social sciences. Check the programme description for each study programme for information about requirements.

Learning outcome

Knowledge - the student shall:

  • gain insight into the basic ideas and preconditions that shapes social organization and management and their societal importance.

Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:

  • acquire a set of concepts and an understanding that can be used to work with current issues and challenges related to the development and change of organization and society.

Learning methods and activities

2 hours of lectures every week throughout the semester or 4 hours per week in the first half of the semester. In addition a number of seminars related to the work with the compulsory activities will be organized. The compulsory activity can only be completed in the fall semester.

  • Approved assignment(s) and participation in the compulsory part of the seminars
