About the course

Course content

The course provides a basic introduction to social science perspectives on organization and management and their role in society. Organization and management have great influence on our lives and on the formation and development of society on all levels. The course explores different types of organizations (public, private, civic) and forms of management both nationally and internationally. The course offers fundamental insight into the core ideas and preconditions that inform and shape management and organization in our time, and their significance for people and society. The course belongs to the generic thematic "management".

Learning outcome

Knowledge - the student shall:

* gain insight into the basic ideas and preconditions that shape management and organization, and their societal significance and implications.

Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:

* acquire a common language and understanding that can be used working with current challenges related to the management, development and change in organizations.

Learning methods and activities

2 hours of lectures every week throughout the semester or 4 hours per week in the first half of the semester. In addition a number of seminars related to the work with the compulsory activities will be organized. The compulsory activity can only be completed in the fall semester.

  • Approved term paper(s). Number and requirements will be announced in the beginning of the semester
