Course content

As well as being a language course with special emphasis on the development of practical language skills and basic grammar, SPA0502 is an introduction to certain parts of Spanish speaking countries' history and civilization.

During tha course, the student is expected to practice Spanish in practical working life situations. Through this work the student is also expected to prepare for a possible job in another country and a different cultural environment.

The student is expected to be able to express in Spanish some perspectives on identity, culture and society in Norway as well as the Spanish speaking countries.

The student is also expected to master a formal style of language on a basic level.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE
The candidate
-is expedted to be familiar with the Spanish sound system
-is expected to be familiar with basic, Spanish grammar for practical usage
-is expected to have some knowledge to economic, social and political main features from a few chosen parts of Spanish and Latin American civilization
-is expected to be familiar with various forms of address both in the private and professional sphere
-is expected to develop a vocabulary in order to compare culturally dependent matters in Norway and the Spanish speaking countries

The students should gain insight into basic Spanish grammar. They should be able to use this insight for everyday communication in Spanish

SKILLS
The candidate
-is expected to make him or herself understood in both oral and written Spanish on level A2
-is expected to present a project
-is expected to understand simple tekxts and articles about cultural matters in Spanish
-is expected to produce similar texts in Spanish as well as notes, summaries, letters, e-mails and short essays

Learning methods and activities

A combination of lectures and seminars. The written work that the student is expected to present may e.g. consist of several short, written hand-ins. Both the written and the oral exercisess must be approved within the fixed deadlines in order for the student to be able to sit the exam. It is the responsibility of the student to keep updated on deadlines and requirements for this course.

In order to be able to sit the exam, the student is obliged to register for teaching for the term he or she is planning to sit the exam. He or she may sit the exam if the compulsory work is approved for earlier terms.
