About the course

Course content

The course provides an introduction to and practical training in the communication of scientific knowledge to different audiences. The main focus is on the communication of the students’ 5th year project in academic and non-academic contexts. The main aim of the course is to support students in writing their project report. The course is taught in English; the focus is on communication of scientific knowledge through English. Compulsory assignments should be carried out in English.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE:

The student

- has knowledge of different purposes and forms of communication of scientific knowledge to different types of audiences (for example scientific research articles, popular science articles, project papers and master theses, visual presentations)

- has knowledge of techniques that promote scientific communication, both in academic and non-academic environments

- has knowledge of fundamental aspects of scientific writing

- has knowledge of the writing process and is aware of the difference between its productive and unproductive stages

SKILLS:

The student

- is able to present scientific knowledge – both orally and in writing – to academic peers as well as non-academics'

- is able to structure scientific knowledge into a coherent text that follows conventions of scientific writing

- is able to develop a text alone and in collaboration with others, and can give and receive feedback effectively

-is able to analyze and manage own writing process in order to increase productivity

Learning methods and activities

Teaching consists of lectures, group activities, written assignments and oral presentations.

Further on evaluation

The course examination consists of a written assignment. All compulsory activities must be approved before the student may take the exam.
