About the course

Course content

The course aims to provide students with insight and experience with nursing in Norway and the Norwegian healthcare system. This includes clinical nursing care for patients/users in the municipal and/or specialist healthcare services. The course also aims to give students insight into cultural understanding through reflection on practical placement studies in a new cultural context.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The student:

  • has knowledge about the Norwegian health care system
  • has knowledge about nursing role and responsibility in Norway
  • has knowledge about nursing care for relevant patient groups and their families

Skills:

The student:

  • plans and delivers safe and holistic nursing care based on an expected level of knowledge and experience
  • demonstrates a caring attitude and cultural sensitivity in the provision of nursing care
  • demonstrates ability to communicate and collaborate in a new cultural context

General competence:

The student:

  • reflects critically upon relevant aspects of nursing practice and suggests appropriate changes and options based on literature findings, including research
  • reflects upon similarities/differences in nursing care provided in Norway compared to their home country, using literature and experiences from their clinical placement in Norway

Learning methods and activities

Clinical placement. Lectures. Individual assignments. Working in groups or indvidually. Reflection group.

Further on evaluation

General requirements:

  • All practical placement courses require 90% attendance.
  • As a general rule, students follow a work schedule agreed upon with the placement site

(see Guidelines for the implementation and assessment of practical studies).

Detailed information about mandatory requirements and activities will be announced at the start of the course. All mandatory activities must be approved before the final assessment can be carried out. If a student is assessed as "Fail," the practicum period (including compulsory activities) must be retaken at the student’s home university.

Nursing (BSPL)

Required previous knowledge

Admission as an exchange student to the programme of study Bachelor in nursing (BSPL) is required.

Language requirement: English level B2 or equivalent.
