Course content

This course is related to the course TBBY1014 and TBBY1016 and also focuses on traditional rod constructions. Traditional practice constitutes an essential part of the basic education in the bachelor's course in traditional building crafts where learning takes place through one's own practical work.

Through participation and training under the guidance of a learning arena, the student will acquire broad and versatile insight into practical work within traditional building crafts.

The course includes project-based work with guidance. The learning arena in collaboration with NTNU is working out a project plan as a framework for the practice at the learning arena.

The project plan should have pole constructions as an essential part, but other types of construction work can also be included as it is appropriate for the learning arena and the students.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

  • The candidate has knowledge of: construction principle in different types of rod constructions with beam layers and roof layers local traditional stave constructions and the building principles they are based on

Skills

The candidate can:

  • carry out pole construction projects from extraction of timber to finished construction, on your own, and as part of a larger work team mark and chop common types of skates and folds for rod constructions
  • demonstrate different types of work relevant to the construction of traditional rod constructions and show good handling in the work with traditional hand tools

General competence

The candidate can:

  • document the structure and details of traditional stave buildings
  • use different types of springs to investigate local stave building tradition
  • develop your own craft professional level through systematic practice

Learning methods and activities

Practical project-based work in the learning arena with professional guidance and reporting of work performed.

The work can also to some extent consist of excursions, fieldwork, internships or work seminars.

Active participation in the practical work is necessary to be able to complete the course.

  • Mandatory report, blog post or oral presentation of the chosen specialization topic

Further on evaluation

Practical work test with a graded grade.

In the event of a valid absence, a practical work test must be taken at a new deadline by agreement with the course supervisor. In the event of failure, invalid absence or voluntary repetition, a new test can be taken at the earliest at the next examination.

Course materials

Adapt the individual projects in the learning arena. Product produced by the student as part of an internship project in the learning arena belongs to the learning arena unless otherwise agreed with the student.
